The Joint Committee for Nordic Research Councils in the Humanities and Social Sciences (NOS-HS) received 106 applications under the call for funding for NOS-HS Exploratory Workshops 2022. The NOS-HS committee has now selected the 33 projects that will receive funding.
NOS-HS funds exploratory workshop series with a view to promoting the development of new research areas and programmes within the humanities and social sciences in the Nordic countries.
The majority of the funded applications came from Norway (11) followed by Finland (7), Sweden (7), Denmark (6), and Iceland (2). Each application had co-applicants from at least two other Nordic countries.
Bethina Strandberg-Jensen is an advisor at NordForsk and says:
“The scientific quality of the applications was very high. The 33 projects that we are funding are promising Nordic workshops that will take place in 2023 and 2024. They cover a broad field of research. The projects will help to strengthen Nordic co-operation in the humanities and social sciences, and we look forward to seeing the results of that.”
Focus areas
The primary purpose of the NOS-HS Exploratory Workshops call is to fund the development of new researchers curiosity-driven research areas and programmes within the humanities and social sciences in the Nordic countries.
Additional objectives for the funded workshops are to:
- encourage the inclusion of younger researchers and stakeholders outside the world of academia in Nordic social science and humanities networks
- promote curiosity-driven and new bottom-up research
- promote Nordic added value in research
- include researchers at all career stages in order to establish new networks
- encourage early-career researchers to have active roles
- involve stakeholders from outside the world of academia when relevant
- support the planning stages of large projects
The total budget available for the projects is NOK 14 million. Each project is granted a minimum of NOK 290,000 and a maximum of NOK 430,000 for a period of two years.
